JOËL METZ
Joël Lysander Metz is a 26-year-old Luxembourgish saxophone player, educator and composer. Currently active as a band leader of ‘The Metz Foundation’, educator at the Modern Music Department ‘Conservatoire du Nord’ in Luxembourg, regular sideman of the ‘LJO - Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra’, occasionally the Military Big Band of Luxembourg and fixed member at the Josh Island band, as well as Saxitude, Joël shows versatility in performing and adaptability to different kinds of musical settings.
After having frequented the conservatories of Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg city and the music school of Dudelange, Joël pursued his professional education at the prestigious jazz departments of the Conservatory of Amsterdam and Codarts (Rotterdam). During his time in the Netherlands, Joël took lessons with and followed masterclasses of countless idols of the current global jazz scene: Bob Mintzer, Ben Wendel, Seamus Blake, Richard Perry and the Dutch Jazz scene: Tineke Postma, Benjamin Herman, Ben van Gelder, Jasper Blom, Simon Rigter, to name a few.
Performances with the above mentioned projects have led Joël to play on many of Luxembourg’s most important stages, such as the Artikuss, the Trifolion and even the Philharmony. In the Netherlands, Joël had the pleasure of playing at Nick Vollebrecht in Laren (NL), New Grounds Rotterdam and even the Bimhuis in Amsterdam. Internationally Joël has been playing in Laos, Thailand, South Korea and most recently in Vilnius where his was part of the 2023 Euroradio Jazz Orchestra.
To this day Joël remains a curious mind to enrichen his musical knowledge, skillset and output through performing in different musical settings.
