1993

But…

It all began with an idea.

In 1993 Ernie HAMMES had the idea to put together a handful op musicians, all members of the local jazz scene, for a project called “Tribute to Big Band Jazz” and perform a musical journey through all time standards for Big Band. This concert was organised as part of the Printemps Musical and had a great success.

The first concert was held

at the Conservatoire de Musique

in Luxembourg.

Playing together were some “younger” guys together with some “LESS” younger guys but they had a lot in common:

The love for Big Band music and they all lived in the same country of Luxembourg.

After this concert nobody of the appointed musicians really wanted this exceptional journey to end after just 1 gig.

These fabulous musicians really were into big band music and this orchestra provided countless possibilities for luxembourgish cats to perform their music genre in a professional environment. But also was this orchestra an opportunity to invite world-class Jazz legends as well as upcoming local jazz players to perform with them on luxembourg scenes. Out of all these desires it was only natural to continue with this project and so Tribute to Big Band Jazz became the

Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra!

Even today after 30 years!! of making music together there are still founding members playing together with several younger musicians and still performing on a regular basis on the scenes of the luxembourg jazz scenes.

An today in 2023 for our 30st anniversary we are proud to present to you our new logo that you already saw on our front page and will see, at least we hope so, regularly on our national and maybe international scenes
